Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the famous architect and designer, is credited with two well-known euphemisms: "Less is more" and "God is in the details."
Although stents and stenting technology were "science-fiction" in his lifetime, these quotes depict Medinol's approach to stent design.
Medinol's unique approach to stent design was apparent from the get-go. Our 1st generation NIR® stent revolutionized the industry with its flexible closed cell stent design. This ingenious design succeeded in creating a long-awaited breakthrough in combining the flexibility needed to deliver the stent to the right location and the scaffolding needed to maintain the vessel patency once deployed in that location.
The unique combination of flexibility and scaffolding characterizes our stents for over 16 years and is the result of an ongoing R&D process. This process focuses on the design of each curve of each strut. It takes into account aspects such as angle, width and profile both on the strut level and the entire stent level.
Moreover, Medinol’s advanced designs are also the result of our unique manufacturing capabilities. Our advanced technology removes many manufacturing constraints, thus allowing us to explore and use designs that would otherwise remain on paper. For example, our manufacturing technology allows us to use the finest strut profiles in the industry. We are thus able to combine thicker and thinner strut to further optimize the balance between flexibility and scaffolding.
